Trimmings & Accessories
Trims and accessories fulfill a number of roles in garment creation: they enhance the look or functionality of garments, increasing hanger-appeal; individualize a garment or product; create product differentiation, or ensure the item aligns with a fashion trend or theme. High quality trims can make an inexpensive item look top class.
Trims and accessories refer to materials used in the creation of a garment or item, other than the main fabric, and fall into 4 basic categories:
- Bindings – bias cut and knitted – are used to finish a garment on areas like necklines, armholes and openings. They must be flexible and easy to use to conform to contours
- Edgings – are used to outline shapes, accentuate lines or compartmentalize colour blocks. They are applied to hems, tucks, ruffles or necklines. Piping, lace, ribbons, fringes and tapes fit into this category
- Flat Trims – these are applied to a garment for ornamental purposes, to change its aesthetic appearance, cover seams or create textural or visual appeal. Braids, twill tapes, ribbons, embroidery and appliques belong in this category
- Other Trims – buttons, metal trims, nail heads, rhinestones, buckles and rivets belong in this group and are generally used on heavy duty fabrics like denim
It’s very important to ensure the appropriate trim selection is made to achieve these results, and that’s where La Fabrica steps in. Their e-catalogue carries a vast range of over a hundred different trims and accessories from which to choose, including:
